Esiloc 40 Tablet

Esiloc 40 Tablet is a prescription medicine that contains esomeprazole 40 mg in each tablet. It belongs to the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class, which lowers the amount of acid your stomach makes. Esiloc 40 Tablet is used for acid-related conditions such as GERD, erosive esophagitis, and stomach or duodenal ulcers, and it may also be used to help prevent NSAID-related ulcers when prescribed. The pack contains a strip/box of 10 tablets from Cadila Pharmaceuticals, India.

How it works: Esomeprazole in Esiloc 40 Tablet blocks the acid pumps in the stomach lining, which reduces acid production at the source. As a tablet, it is swallowed and absorbed before it can do this job, helping calm acid damage and give irritated tissue time to heal.

Esiloc 40 Tablet is the higher-strength sibling of Esiloc 20 Tablet, so it is generally chosen when a doctor wants stronger acid suppression or when a lower dose has not controlled symptoms well enough. Because it is 40 mg per tablet, it is not the same as a typical starting dose for every patient, and it should be used only when a clinician has decided this strength is appropriate. Some patients may feel relief within a day, but full benefit can take several days of regular use.

• GERD and frequent heartburn
• Erosive esophagitis

• Swallow Esiloc 40 Tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or split it unless your prescriber or pharmacist has told you otherwise.
• Take it on an empty stomach, usually at least 1 hour before a meal for best effect.
• Try to take it at the same time each day to keep acid control steady.
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose; do not double up.
• Do not change to Esiloc 20 Tablet or another strength on your own, because the dose your doctor chose may be intentional.
• Use exactly as prescribed, especially if you are taking it for ulcer healing or combination therapy.

Each Esiloc 40 Tablet provides esomeprazole 40 mg. Dosing is commonly once daily, but some conditions may require a different schedule or a temporary higher or lower plan directed by your doctor; the maximum daily amount depends on the condition being treated and the prescriber’s instructions. Do not take more tablets per day than prescribed, because this 40 mg strength is already a higher-dose option compared with Esiloc 20 Tablet.

Common side effects of Esomeprazole may include:

• Constipation
• Abdominal pain
• Gas or bloating
• More noticeable stomach upset if the tablet is taken incorrectly or on an empty stomach sensitivity, though most people tolerate it well

• Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, because higher-strength esomeprazole may need closer monitoring.
• Long-term use can increase the risk of low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, and bone fractures in some people.
• This medicine can mask symptoms of a more serious stomach condition, so report weight loss, vomiting blood, or black stools right away.
• Use caution if you take clopidogrel, since esomeprazole can reduce how well it works.
• Tell your clinician about all prescription and OTC medicines, because this 40 mg strength may interact more noticeably with certain drugs.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, use only if your doctor says the benefit outweighs the risk.
• Do not use it to treat sudden chest pain or other emergency symptoms that could be heart-related.

• Clopidogrel
• Warfarin and other blood thinners
• Certain HIV medicines such as atazanavir or nelfinavir
• Methotrexate
• Drugs that need stomach acid for absorption, such as ketoconazole or iron salts
