CAAT 40 Tablet is a prescription tablet that contains atorvastatin 40 mg in each tablet. Atorvastatin belongs to the statin class of medicines, which are used to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides and to help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. CAAT 40 Tablet is used along with diet and other lifestyle measures when a doctor decides a stronger atorvastatin dose is needed to control cholesterol or cardiovascular risk. It is made by Abbott Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. and comes in a strip/box of 10 tablets.
How it works: Atorvastatin in CAAT 40 Tablet works by blocking HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme your liver uses to make cholesterol. This helps lower harmful cholesterol levels in the blood and can slow the buildup of fatty plaques in arteries.
CAAT 40 Tablet is a mid-to-higher strength atorvastatin tablet compared with CAAT 10 Tablet, so it is not the usual starting strength for everyone. A doctor may choose CAAT 40 Tablet when a lower dose is not enough, or when a patient needs more cholesterol lowering but does not yet need CAAT 80 Tablet. Because it is a stronger tablet, it should be used only in patients who have already been assessed for statin therapy.
Each CAAT 40 Tablet provides 40 mg of atorvastatin per tablet. It is usually taken once daily, but the exact dose and whether it is the right strength for you are decided by your doctor based on your cholesterol levels, heart risk, and other medicines. The maximum daily dose of atorvastatin is generally 80 mg, so CAAT 40 Tablet may be part of a regimen that stays at or below that limit only if prescribed.
Do not change your dose or stop the medicine without speaking to your doctor.
Common side effects of Atorvastatin may include:
