Apixaban is a prescription blood thinner, also called an anticoagulant. It helps lower the risk of harmful blood clots by blocking factor Xa, a protein involved in clotting.
It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in certain people with atrial fibrillation, and to treat or help prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Use it only as prescribed, because bleeding risk can increase and it may not be right for everyone.
