Rivastigmine

Rivastigmine is a prescription medicine used to help treat symptoms of dementia. It is available in capsule and transdermal patch forms under brand names such as Exelon and Rivamer. It belongs to a class of medicines called cholinesterase inhibitors, which may help support memory, thinking, and daily function by increasing acetylcholine levels in the brain.

Rivastigmine is used for mild to moderate dementia related to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease. It is not a cure, and it may not work the same for everyone. Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and dizziness. Follow the prescribed dose carefully, and tell your clinician about heart problems, stomach ulcers, asthma, or breathing issues before use.
