Acarboz 50 mg Tablet contains 50 mg of acarbose in each tablet. It belongs to the alpha-glucosidase inhibitor class and is used along with diet and exercise to help lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. This medicine works in the gut to slow the digestion of carbohydrates so blood sugar rises more slowly after meals. Acarboz 50 mg Tablet is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
How it works: Acarboz 50 mg Tablet works in the small intestine by blocking enzymes that break down starches and other complex carbohydrates. This slows carbohydrate absorption after meals, which helps reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes. The tablet is taken by mouth, and its effect is tied to the food you eat rather than acting like insulin.
Acarboz 50 mg Tablet is the higher tablet strength compared with Acarboz 25 mg Tablet, so it is more suitable for people whose doctor has already assessed that they need a stronger dose. Because acarbose is usually started low and increased as tolerated, the 50 mg tablet may be chosen after a lower strength if blood sugar control and stomach side effects support that step-up. It is not meant to be split into a different dosing plan unless your prescriber tells you to do so.
Each Acarboz 50 mg Tablet provides 50 mg of acarbose per tablet. The usual schedule is taken with meals, often 50 mg three times daily, but your doctor may start lower and increase gradually based on blood sugar results and stomach tolerance. The maximum daily dose is 100 mg three times daily (300 mg per day), unless your prescriber gives a different instruction.
Do not change your dose or stop the medicine without speaking to your doctor.

Store Acarboz 50 mg Tablet in its original strip or box at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct light.
Take Acarboz 50 mg Tablet with the first bite of each main meal, not on an empty stomach. Your doctor will tell you how many times per day to take it based on your blood sugar and how well you tolerate it.
Yes, Acarboz 50 mg Tablet has twice the acarbose per tablet compared with Acarboz 25 mg Tablet. Doctors may use the 50 mg strength when a lower dose has not been enough or when they want a step-up dose that still fits standard acarbose titration.
Gas, bloating, stomach pain, and diarrhea are the most common side effects. These can happen more often as the dose increases, including with Acarboz 50 mg Tablet compared with the 25 mg strength.
If you skip a meal, you should skip the dose for that meal because this medicine works with food. Taking Acarboz 50 mg Tablet without eating usually does not help and may increase stomach upset.
