Saxagliptin is a prescription diabetes medicine in the DPP-4 inhibitor class. It is sold under the brand name Onglyza in 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablet strengths.
It is used along with diet and exercise to help improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Saxagliptin is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Tell your healthcare provider about a history of pancreatitis, kidney disease, heart failure, or if you take other diabetes medicines that can cause low blood sugar.
