Valsartan is a prescription angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to help relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure. It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that can narrow blood vessels and raise blood pressure.
It is used to treat high blood pressure and may be prescribed after a heart attack or for heart failure in some patients. Do not use valsartan during pregnancy. Tell your healthcare provider about kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration, and all medicines you take, especially other blood pressure drugs, NSAIDs, or potassium supplements.
